holly Christmas 1997

What's new this year?
Ya wanna hear?
I tell you there's an awful lot.
Take less time to tell what's not.

Our oldest took the college leap
and we found out it isn't cheap.
At least she won a scholarship
in drama. Huh? Ain't that a trip?

She hung her art in Latte Da
and sold four works, hurrah, hurrah.
Three summer jobs that kept her hoppin'
here to there and never stoppin'.

What's Kim's "new thing"? Want the answer?
She's become a BELLY DANCER!
This is not a passing whim.
She learned to dance like fish to swim.

And life's not dull for our guy Nik.
When faced with choices, he can't pick!
So he just up and does 'em all:
Cross country, soccer, band this fall.

He lettered volleyball last spring;
His freshman year, that's quite a thing!
And traveling soccer, on THEY go,
One weekend down in San Diego.

Now he's in photography.
Equipment given to us free.
A darkroom set up in his room.
A camera with rewind and zoom.

Sit down, I've still got more to tell.
I haven't told of Whit Goodell,
or where we took our summer trip,
or river rafts and how they flip.

Whitney's now in middle school.
Her A's are straight ones, as a rule.
And soccer's still her joy and dream.
In spring she joined a traveling team.

Don't know who's got drive like hers.
Eruption, Spirit, Emeralds, Strikers:
All her teams bring home the gold.
Trophies more than case can hold.

Always on two teams at once;
All four seasons, all twelve months.
And when she's home she's still a-buzz;
Bounciest kid that ever was.

I changed my mind, I'm out of time.
It's getting much too hard to rhyme.
I'll skip our trip to Arizona:
Canyon, Slide Rock, and Sedona.

The rafting trip would take too long;
So many things that happened wrong.
But all were safe at end of cruise,
Suffice to say we made the news.

Now here's my favorite part of this.
We send our hugs and then a kiss.
We wish you all the season's peace;
And hope your joys in life increase.
